The VSP has been an unforgettable experience for me. It has broadened my horizon, improved my language skills, and allowed me to make friends from all over the world. The program has also given me a deeper understanding of the importance of international exchange and cooperation in the field of ocean science. I am grateful for this opportunity and hope to continue to explore and learn more about the ocean in the future.

The summer exchange program allows me to interact with a temperate marine habitat and exchange ideas with friends from other countries. Besides, it also gives me a chance to connect with students studying environmental science all over the world and make friends with them. We each have a different emphasis and set of skills when working on group assignments because of our varied major backgrounds. This made us a good team, and our research was well-rounded. With a shared passion to nature, we explore Vancouver's wildlife outside of the classroom and impart our knowledge of both terrestrial and marine aspects.

I had an incredible experience in the summer exchange program at the University of British Columbia. As a student majoring in ocean science and technology, participating in the “Ocean Leadership” program at UBC allowed me to explore global ocean issues and broaden my perspective beyond Hong Kong's ecological environment.

To become an ocean leader, we learned the importance of effectively communicating science to diverse audiences. Throughout the program, we developed various practical skills, including presentation techniques, writing annotated bibliographies and essays, and even creating websites. These tools are invaluable for our future careers. Joining this program was definitely a remarkable experience that I experienced the importance of mentorship and knowledge-sharing in shaping the future of ocean science.

In this one-month-long summer program, I tried different methods to present my research effectively, I did a one-pager, legacy project, and presentation based on some of the marine challenges facing this day, like deep-sea mining in our group project. Since the program instructors are both graduates, they gave us feedback and tips from their experiences. Other than stuff to work on, we have the opportunity to listen to guest speaker presentations including graduates, professors, and scientists on their research or thoughts on different marine topics. One cool thing I found out about Canadian class culture is we could give feedback on every guest speaker's presentation in terms of content and presentation skills no matter how experienced he/she is.
